Taiwan High Speed Rail is really cool it is really fast...
I only spent 1 and half hour from Taipei to Kaohsiung.
You may try once while you traveling in Taiwan but it is a bit expensive.

Taipei Film House 光點電影院

Taipei Film House 光點電影院 is a nice old building with cafe, book store and screening place.
They screen special movie which you rarely can watch in cinema but watching movie in Taiwan is really expensive..about RM20+.

Share with you some interesting things that I saw in Taiwan.

The lovely Taiwanese always take care of old people,
they prepare the glasses at their post office for the old people

There are many second hand book stores in Taiwan.
This is one of the shops in Tainan, I can hardly walk when I enter this shop...crazy full ~~

Backpack

Buying a big backpack is my dream since my secondary school days. To have a big backpack traveling around is a very wonderful thing. I buy a 40+10 backpack purposely for my trip to Taiwan. Waha ~~ I felt so good. The brand is 40+10 Deuter Air Contact and it costs me RM400. It is expensive but worth to have a good backpack for a traveler. The warranty is lifelong and the quality is very good, comfortable when you wear it. My colleague - Lucas introduces me to a shop near Sogo KL to buy. The lady boss is very friendly and the backpack that she sells is much cheaper than other places.

Suddenly think of posting this because one of the radio stations in Malaysia interview the founder of Yuan Soap. I heard a lot about Yuan Soap before I visited to Taiwan.

The founder of Yuan Soap plants his own herb and makes his own soap until he make it as a career. It is very interesting. There are many different kinds of soap made by natural herb.

The food I ate

I am not a food lover and I didn't try much food in Taiwan. Most of the food in Taiwan, we can eat it in Malaysia, especially those food in night market. There is one food I love the most in Taiwan - BEEF NOODLE. wow...everywhere we can buy beef noodle.

Potato with bacon, ate at 7Eleven. (Kaohsiung)

nice stinky tofu =p (Kaohsiung)

Bento, can get it anywhere in Taiwan, especially train station. (Taipei)

I hate the plastic on the plate!

This taste good, I went to this restaurant for twice, at Xi Men Ding.

At Jiu Fen 九份, I don't know the name.

Youth Trekkers Wanted

Easy Card

In Malaysia, we have "touch n go" card but need to scan for 5 seconds to access it.
When you travel in Taipei, please purchase one Easy Card which cost NT500 and there is NT400 credit for you. It is very useful while you traveling with public buses or MRT because it is cheaper if you pay with this card. It is fast and easy.

Please take note!! There are 3 ways to use it when you traveling with their public buses.
01 Scan when you get on the bus 上車收費
02 Scan when you get off from the bus 下車收費
03 Scan when you get on the bus and also when you get off the bus 上下車收費

every time when you get one the bus you have to notice the red signboard above the bus driver whether it is written 上車收費 or 下車收費 or 上下車收費

This is the Easy Card

Please print one copy before you go to Taipei. It is really useful to keep one in your bag for not getting lost at Taipei MRT Station. *click the map for enlarge

When I visited Kaohsiung Design Festival. There were some Taiwanese design studios selling their own designed items. The book below which I bought from the festival is an very interesting notebook. There are 21 different famous peoples (include artist, singer, politician...) in this book with their famous wisdom. On the pixel page, there are 1 and 0 and you have to fill up all the 1 then you will know who is the famous people on the page. For those who are going to Taiwan and also searching a place for zzzzzz
Here is my recommendation. Although I never been this few guest houses, I just want to share with all of you.

01 TaiwanMex is the cheapest guest houses I search from internet. I supposed to stay there on my first 2 days in Taipei but too bad, it was fully booked. You can email for booking, they make a fast reply.

02 Eight Elephants Hostel is also cheap and clean. It was also fully booked when I asked for reservation before my trip. May you guys can have a try :) I think it is a nice place for backpacker.

03 Chocolate Box Backpackers, someone introduce this to me when I was in Taipei. The rate is okay, not that cheap. This guest house near 師大 ShiDa, nice night market around.

04 Youth Guest House, they have different hostel around Taiwan. You may log on their site for searching. Please don't email them for reservation, they reply you very late. Give them a call and tell them your name would be better. If you are going to stay at this youth hostel, please apply the youth travel card before. p/s: their hostel in Kenting is nice and cheap...hehe

Kaohsiung Design Festival 09

It was so great I had the chance to join Kaohsiung Design Festival. The exhibition was very big. They exhibited artworks from Taiwan and International. This festival attracted many people to visit. Exhibition hall was always crowded. They did a good job... cheers~

Youth Trekkers Sharing Party

I joinned a nice party on 8th May. There was winners from Korea, Japan and Taiwan to share their trip experience with all of us. We had to prepare power point for the presentation. hu~~ we was quite nervous before the presentation. Finally, all of us did a good job. When those winners from Taiwan did their presentation, I am so impressed with their presentation skill. Taiwanese can express themselves so well.

Before the presentation, there was a short introduction about us.

Pretty Cloth

永樂市場, please use google map to search this place if you want to go.
That place sell many many nice and lovely cloth.
I spent NT2000 to buy cloth and brought it back to Malaysia. aha, now I have enough cloth to handmade some nice notebooks...yeah ~~
In Malaysia, I never see such a lovely cloth but there is a lot in Taiwan, this is why Taiwanese can handmade so many nice stuffs.

Handcrafters will be crazy if visit to this nice place.

Travelling Tips in Taiwan

There are 2 things you need to apply before you travel in Taiwan because it is very useful during your trip. It is free to apply the both things.

01. 寶貝機 (Digital Tour Buddy)
02. 青年旅遊卡 (Youth Travel Card)

01. 寶貝機 (Digital Tour Buddy) is a handphone with Taiwan number. There is NT200 credit with the handphone. The handphone provides you some useful number, such as youth hotel number, taxi station number....
Please apply this thing before 7 days you go to Taiwan. You can take this handphone at the airport and it is better for you to take it from the airport (you have to write it when you fill in the form) Click here to apply.

02. 青年旅遊卡 (Youth Travel Card) is a useful card for you to travel in Taiwan. They will give you a booklet with some travel information after you apply this card. You can apply this card at the service counter when you are going to get your 寶貝機 (Digital Tour Buddy).

For me, the Digital Tour Buddy (handphone) is really useful as I can contact my friends and couch surfers easily during my days in Taiwan. On the other hand, the Youth Travel Card is not really useful for me during my trips. Anyway, you just apply it because it is free. You can use it if you want to stay in Youth Hostel.

Art Market

When I couch surfed with Anne at Tianmu. I found out this art market at Tianmu Square.
That is a art market + flea market. I talked to 2 people over there. I wished to see more art markets during my trip in Taiwan but too bad, I only met one art market.

I knew a designer at the art market.

I like this t-shirt a lot but I didn't have enough to buy it at that time.

This is a really cute design. The guy recycled the hardware accessory to become keychain, necklace...

Transportation

The public transportation in Taiwan is really convenience and it is very easy to travel around in Taiwan. Bus, train, MRT, taxi, bicycle....台鐵, 高鐵, 捷運, 客運, 公車......

Once you arrive Taipei, you will visit to here. I always lost my way in Taipei Main Station.
This is the station of bus, train and MRT.

MRT service in Taipei is really convenience.

This is the Taiwan High Speed Train. It is really really fast, only take one and half hour to Kaoshiung from Taipei.

The public buses in the city is clean. The screen on the top of the driver will show you the name of every bus stops, this is a very caring service. They use recycled ticket if you pay with coin, you have to return to the driver before you get down from the bus.

I took 3 different types of train from the south > Taitung > Hualien > Taipei
Every hour or half hour, there is one train to your destination.

Booday 蘑菇 is a very interesting shop in Taipei.
They not only do design but also sell their handmade stuffs and own a lovely cafe at the upstair of their shop. You can log on their website for more information.

The cafe is very lovely and comfortable.

They sell their own designed T-shirts and there are different lovely messages written on the tag on every T-shirts.

They also publish their own magazine.

Ppaper

Ppaper is a kind of design & life magazine from Taiwan.
Normally I order this magazine monthly from the bookstore in Malaysia.
This magazine has given me many useful information and I like the simple layout of this magazine. I am happy that I have the chance to visit the ppaper shop. They sell nice designed stuffs and old magazine.

Actually they are a group of designers but they also publish their own magazine - ppaper, aangle, shop, eye and business. Besides that, they also produce their own bag and jacket too.

The shop is at the underground and their design studio is at the upstair.

During my trip, I knew many nice people in Taiwan.
Taiwanese, French, Korean, Japanese, German, American and my Malaysian friends
huhu~ It was so nice for me. I love talking with all of you.
It is a very good chance for me to understand other culture :)

Pan Pan, she is really nice and lovely. I am so happy to know her in Taiwan.

Art Museum

I visited the Taipei Fine Art Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei
There is a lot of people visit to the art museum in Taipei.

I could see parent bring their child to art museum and explaning the artwork to her one by one, how nice is it.... I rarely see this scene in Malaysia.

It seems visiting to art gallery in Taipei is a very common things.

Couch Surfing

Couch Surfing is a worldwide network for making connections between travelers and the local communities they visit.

During my trip, I couch surfed with nice people in Taiwan.

Couch surfing is really nice, it makes me feel like being at home.
We shared a lot with each other. They introduce and bring me to nice places, showing me around the area they are staying now. All of them are friendly :)
